Plan Background

What the plan aims to do
The Plan establishes our current requirements for waste management and for the future, by looking at how much waste we produce and what we produce.

It proposes how we will deal with the waste in terms of reduction, collection, recovery, recycling, treatment and disposal. The proposed solution is designed to achieve targets set out in the NI Waste Management Strategy to significantly reduce the amount of waste being buried in landfill sites. This will done by:

Short term increase recovery, recycling and composting of waste
Long term reduce the amount of waste we produce and develop more effective waste treatment processes

The Plan covers the period of time until 2020 and is designed to achieve interim targets set out for the years 2005 and 2010 as well as final targets for 2020.
