No Need To Sort It - 5 March 2010

In a move designed to make visits to bottle banks more user friendly, arc21 Councils have announced that bottle banks at all its community recycling points and household recycling centres across its area can now be filled with mixed colours of glass bottles or jars.

It now makes no difference if the bottle or jar is made from clear, brown or green glass, they can now be placed mixed in any bottle bank. People no longer need to sort the bottles and jars by colour, and put them into the corresponding bank.

Ricky Burnett, arc21’s Operations & Policy Director “I believe the public will welcome this change. It will also help each Council to manage capacity more effectively, particularly during busy periods such as that experienced during Christmas and New Year. Advances in technology now enables mixed glass to be mechanically sorted and separated into the various types for recycling which includes the production of new glass bottles. “

Signs will be appearing on all the bottle banks over the coming weeks indicating that any colour of glass and jars can be placed in the bottle bank. Anyone wishing to know the location of their nearest bottle bank can do so by visiting their council website or by contacting the Council direct.
